Kahala Mall Dental Office – Now in Kahala Office Tower

Our affiliated dental office in Kahala Mall has now moved into a larger location to better serve our patients. The office was originally located on the Ewa-Mauka side of the mall. We are now located on the Koko Head-Makai side of the mall.

The dental clinic is now in the Kahala Office Tower. The Kahala Office Tower is a five-story building that shares the same parking lot as Kahala Mall. The tower is the taller building next to the two-story Kahala Office Center. Look for the buildings diagonally-across the parking lot from Longs.

Our dentists and staff appreciate the efforts of our affiliated dentist Dr. Michael Schwinn for allowing us to share a wonderful new space with his office. The combination of the existing dentists and staff of Hawaii Dental Clinic as well as the talented people associated with Dental Partners of Kahala mean better quality care for all of our patients.

The move to the new office location will be completed towards the end of 2017 with expected soft opening at the new location from September 1, 2017. All other information, including mailing address, phone number, parking availability, hours, and dentists will remain the same. Please feel free to call our office at 808-735-7777 or stop by our new location for more information.

The Kahala Office Tower has specific hours for the main entrance to the building itself. The image below shows the hours when the front doors to the building will be open:

Our Kahala dentists are available for after-hour or emergency care in certain circumstances, but the hours of the building itself do limit the availability and access to the office.

What is a Root Canal?

What is a Root Canal?
A root canal is a dental procedure used to treat an infected, painful tooth. The condition necessitating a root canal is a specific type of infection in the mouth that begins from the crown of the tooth and extends to the roots embedded inside gums and bone. The infection requiring a root canal usually affects soft tissue commonly called the dental pulp.

Microbiological Aspect of Dental Health
The dental system is rich in microbiological flora and consists of microorganisms that could prove to affect the oral health. These microorganisms are generally found in food constituents and could have negative as well as positive effects on the tooth system. According to a study, probiotic bacteria used for the improvement of gut health could also prove to be beneficial for oral health.

The Root Canal Treatment
A dental pulp consists of a number of blood vessels. When the dental pulp gets infected due to the invasion of pathogenic microbes. It becomes quite essential to remove this infected pulp as it could result in a number of symptoms that includes an extreme sensation of pain while eating or drinking, swelling of the gums, the formation of pus in the gum area, loss of bone density at the tip of the root as well as a significant change of color of the tooth. Thus, a cleaning therapy which removes the infected pulp and seals the interior portion of the tooth is carried out. This therapy is known as a root canal treatment. X-rays of the area must be carried out before performing a root canal in order to diagnose the condition as well as obtain the appropriate length for the tools used in the procedure.

Root canal treatment involves the removal of dental pulp as well as nerves present in the area of the root canal. The decayed nerves are responsible for producing the sensation of pain to the tooth. Thus, it’s removal could result in a substantial decrease in the symptom of pain caused due to the infection.

The procedure of the root canal treatment includes the building of a hole in the problematic tooth through which the pulp, decayed nerves as we, as well as wastes associated with it, be removed. It should be noted that this process is carried out under dry conditions without the involvement of saliva. This cleaning procedure is carried out by scraping as well as scrubbing the sides of the root canal with the help of endodontic files which are a kind of surgical instruments. Sodium hypochlorite solution or distilled water is used to flush out the waste materials removed with the help of endodontic files. After the cleaning procedure, the hole is then sealed by placing a specific type of material used to prevent bacteria from re-entering the canals. The interior portion of the tooth is sealed with root canal sealing cements which proves to be antibacterial. The sealing up of the decayed portion is carried out in order to avoid re-infection and healing to take place.

Downtown Honolulu

Downtown Honolulu Dental Office Extended Hours

Due to multiple requests by our patients our Downtown Honolulu dental office is now open extended hours. The initial extended hours will include evening hours on selected Wednesdays as well as consistent hours on Saturdays and Sundays.

The dentists and staff of Hawaii Dental Clinic – Downtown Honolulu have reorganized their work schedules in order to accommodate our patients. Most dental offices in the town area close at 5pm and are rarely open on weekends. By increasing the hours of availability the downtown office hopes to increase access to patient care for people living and working in the heart of Honolulu.

The extended hours will be rolled out through a gradual transition process with selected evenings and weekends open immediately. All services normally offered at the Downtown office will be available during weekend and evening hours. Staffing will be reduced during these extended hours so walk-in service may be more limited than with our normal operating hours during the day.

The intended extended hours for the Downtown Honolulu dental office will be as follows:

Monday 8am-6pm
Tuesday 8am-6pm
Wednesday 8am-9pm
Thursday 8am-6pm
Friday 8am-6pm
Saturday 9am-5pm
Sunday 9am-5pm

Within the longer work hours the office will still be taking appointments and accepting walk-ins and emergency patients on a space-available basis.

Given the normal workday schedules of working professionals in Honolulu, we hope that our extended evening and weekend hours will allow busy kama’aina the chance to visit the dentist without having to leave work or reorganize schedules. With the fast pace of life in Honolulu, a dental clinic that provides convenient and flexible hours allows patients to fit a visit to the dentist into their normal schedules.

Please feel free to give us a call at 808-538-6522 to schedule an appointment. You can also walk-in or stop by to ask about availability for same-day appointments. As with all of our locations, we do our best to see emergencies the same day.

Bear with us as we start the process of extended hours. We hope to be able to provide great dental services to all of our patients throughout Downtown Honolulu on a convenient and flexible schedule.
